Spring Salon 2018

The Spring Salon of our art society has ended. I took the opportunity to shoot this picture (with a fisheye lens) when there were only a few visitors. Otherwise, most of the time, the place was packed. The venue is a studio which once belonged to an artist, Isaac Grünewald, one of Sweden's best know artists of the previous century.
We had a very nice show. The bulk of the works were paintings, but we also had sculpture, photography, and silver jewelry. For once, I felt that my paintings (far right in the photo, with a glare on the oil from the huge windows) were restrained in color, as the artist next to me had used primary colors.
I took note of the reactions to my paintings: Many noted that there wasn't any visual difference between my pastels and the oil. (Of course it is totally obvious to me, but I know what they mean.) "Oh, such light, such depth!" was one common comment. Many visitors also exclaimed "Oh, how beautiful!" I'm really grateful for the latter comment, as I strive to make my paintings into lyrik works of beauty. I always feel I never achieve that beauty, but hey!, the customer is always right, right? I think it is impossible to reach the level of beauty that I desire, but I'm certainly going to continue the effort to come closer to it. Who said painting was meant to be easy, anyway?
