Peonies and Crystal

Peonies and Crystal
This painting, Peonies and Crystal, was started last summer as a plein air, and I got to finish it recently. It was painted for the enjoyment of the process, and, of course, the beauty of the backlit flowers. As you see in the detail below, it consists of strokes of oilpaint in pure colours which mix optically, that is, in the eye of the beholder. I still find it amazing that blobs of paint visually melt together into a cohesive picture.
It was painted mostly wet-in-wet, with a palette knife.
